Some of the terms used on this site may be unfamiliar to you so this section hopes to make it all clear.
A/V - an "Audio Visual" presentation. Using appropriate software, a sequence of still images are set to a sound track which can be musical or a narration. AV's typically run 4-5 minutes and comprise 20-30 images.
Enprint competition - a class for beginners. prints can be printed at home or at a professional printer, to a maximum size of 9" x 6". The mount can be any size.
League competition - a four-round competition for prints and PDI that runs through the year (September - April) Each member is allowed one entry in each of seven categories in each round (subject to some exclusions, see the full rules for details) There is no set theme for the pictures, so they can be of any subject.
Mount - a stiff card used to present a print to the best effect. Mounts can be bought ready-made or can be cut at home using a suitable bevel cutter, and are available in many colours though white is the most popular as it complements most pictures. Also referred to as "mats."
Panel - three or more prints mounted on a single mount board. A great way of showing prints on a common theme or telling a story.
PDI - Projected Digital Images, the modern equivalent of slides or transparencies. Using the excellent screen at Capel Memorial Hall we can view digital pictures direct from the computer.
Photo hunt competition - a challenge for the summer months when the club doesn't meet. Members are given a list of 12 subjects and enter one PDI in in each category. The consolation prize for coming last is to set the subjects for next year's competiton, and judge them!
Portfolio Exchange - each year we swap two dozen prints and PDIs with our friends at Great Yarmouth Photographic Society. We then spend an enjoyable December evening reviewing their pictures, recording our comments, and choose a best print and best PDI. In the following February we receive back our pictures with their comments and the winners are revealed!
SPA - the Surrey Photographic Association, the group which coordinates activities between local camera clubs across Surrey and Sussex, for example the booking of judges for club competitons. The SPA also hosts its own exhibitions, competitions and awards and is affiliated with the national Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB)
